Richard "Dick" Welch, 73 of Cortland NY, passed away July 26, 2015 at his home. He was born January 10, 1942 in Syracuse NY. Dick was raised and educated in Syracuse graduating from Cicero North Syracuse High School. After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Following his service with the Air Force, he enlisted with the U.S. Army Reserve for over 25 yrs. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter. He was a long time employee at Smith Corona. Dick and his late wife Sara enjoyed bowling in their younger years. Dick's family will cherish his memory for his wit, humor, kindness, and pride in his family. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth (Sean) Greninger of Hermosillo Mexico, Kathleen (Daniel Cosimo) Welch of Cortland NY, his grandchildren Sara, Izabella, Jacob, Kinsey, and Barrett, his siblings Carolyn Casey, Kathleen Rice, Harry DeWallace, David DeWallace, Robert G. Welch, Carol Nichols, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Sara A. Welch, his parents Robert E. and Marjorie Welch, along with his step mother Betty Welch. Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. A celebration of Dick's life will continue at the Community Restaurant, Main St., Cortland, following calling hours. Contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
