Lawrence "Pops" Pfister, 71, of Cortland passed away July 14, 2015 at home. He was born January 10, 1944 in Johnstown PA, the son of the late Lawrence and Myrtle Hopfer Pfister. Larry graduated in 1962 from the school now known as Bishop McCort High School, Johnstown PA. He graduated from Williamsport Community College in 1967, then relocated to Cortland to work at Smith Corona. After Smith Corona's closing, Larry went back to college graduating from RIT in 1997, receiving his bachelor's degree. Over the years he had held various manufacturing positions while living locally. He served as the chairperson for the Cortland Co. Red Cross, currently serving on the board at Access to Independence, and was volunteering as a swim instructor for the Red Cross. Larry enjoyed wood working, travelling, sailing, Dungeons and Dragons, and geocaching. He is survived by his daughters Autumn (David Pollay) Pfister of Cortland NY, Sarah Ames of Akron OH, Laura Pfister of New Orleans LA, five grandchildren Keely and Steven Ames, Elena Pfister, Collin and Adrianna Seeber, and a loving extended family. Calling hours will be Friday 4-7 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. A funeral service will be held Saturday 11:30 am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home.
