Obituary of Lois Perry Stafford

Lois Perry Stafford, 99, of Kinney Gulf Road, Cortland, NY, passed away Monday, April 13 at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born December 9, 1915 at the Perry "homestead", Scott Road in Homer, NY. She was the youngest daughter of Grant Lumen and Hannah Harkness Perry. Mrs. Stafford graduated from the Homer Academy in 1933 and attended the New York State School of Agriculture at Canton graduating in 1936. She worked at the Hastings House in Homer as a cook in her early years and later in the 60's delivered mail for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a homemaker most of her life, carrying out the rigorous duties of a farmer's wife. Lois was a longtime member of the Homer Grange, Farm Bureau and an 86 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Homer, with which she was very active. She truly enjoyed watching college basketball, especially her favorite team, the Syracuse Orangemen and coach Boeheim. She also took great pride in her home and gardens and was an award winning baker, but her greatest love was her family who will miss her very much. Mrs. Stafford was predeceased by her husband of 72 wonderful years, Howard J. Stafford who passed away July 25, 2009. Also her son, Kenneth Grant Stafford of Avon, NY, two great-granddaughters Jennifer and Deanne, and siblings, twin brother Lawrence Perry, and sisters Rachael Crampton, Ella Perry and Frances Potter. She is survived by her Son, David (Juanita) Stafford of Locke, Daughters Nancy (David) DeAugustine of Fairport, Shirley (Robert) Romaninsky of Cortland, Mary (Michael) Burke of Pattersonville, Daughter-in-law Sylvia Stafford of Avon and Sister-in-Law Eleanor Randall of Zephyrhills, FL. Also 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Calling hour will be from 11am-noon on Saturday April 18, at the First United Methodist Church of Homer, 19 Cayuga Street, Homer, NY preceding the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Atwater Cemetery, Homer, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Homer or to a charity of one's choice.
