In Loving Memory of Malcolm A. Howard. Malcolm was called home to be with his Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ on the morning of December 13, 2014 at the age of 81. Malcom was born February 17, 1933 in Cortland, the son of the late Merle and Helen Markham Howard. Malcom graduated from Cortland High School in 1952, then continued his education graduating from Drew Theological Seminary in 1958. Malcolm lived out all of his days here in this life serving others in the example of his Savior. Reverend Howard served as a pastor of Upper New York United Methodist churches for close to 50 years. Malcolm’s heart and deep love for others extended well beyond the doors of the churches where he served. Over the years he volunteered through a state funded program for the handicap, he served as a chaplain for the Boy Scouts of America, opened up his home to numerous inner city kids through the Fresh Air Children’s program, and occasionally led worship services in area nursing homes. After retiring from the ministry, Rev. Howard continued to minister to the elderly and shut-ins through RSVP and worked as a volunteer through the SPCA’s nursing home visitation program. Throughout his life Malcolm demonstrated a compassion for people beyond compare and gave generously to countless charities including Heart’s Cry, St. Jude, and the SPCA to only name a few. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan, his daughter, Rebecca Howard of Syracuse, and his daughter-in-law, Marie Kocher and husband Richard Kocher, and granddaughters, Crysta and Kaitlyn Howard of Chittenango, NY. In addition to his parents Malcolm was predeceased by his son Michael Howard. Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Thursday at the Homer Avenue Methodist Church with Reverends Paul Winkleman and David Johnson officiating. Friends are invited to call from 11:00 -11:45 am prior to the service at the church Spring interment will take place in Cortland Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Homer Avenue United Methodist Church, St. Jude’s, SPCA, or charity of one’s choice. To offer online condolences visit www.wright-beard.com
